Taken on a weekend trip – which is the only cunning clue I’m giving away, this rather unusual and large object was completely at odds with its surroundings…

Here’s the solution. I was convinced that no-one would get this but Carol of Carolcooks2 got it on the nose! It’s a very early form of church radiator, with huge, cast iron fins. At first, we thought that it was placed next to the seat of an important figure, but it turned out there were several of them and its positioning was purely engineering-related.

Congratulations to Carol, who gets the first prize bottle of delight. I’m giving a second prize bottle of virtual Limoncello to Di at Pensitivity who offered an old style fire hydrant – which visually was a possible close fit.

        • Happy Anniversary, Di. Tess is okay but we have nagging feeling there’s some arthritis in her front right leg… let you know, as she’s at the vet, later. She’ll be 8 yrs old in November, and Collies don’t live that long…

          • My parents had a tri-colour rough coliie and he was 15 when they lost him. Barney was a border collie and ten when he died, but that was a fluke accident in the garden. Maggie was a collie cross springer and almost 16. She had arthritis, and someone suggested glucosamine so I looked it up. I bought some from Lidl (check dosage on the internet as it goes by weight) and gave her half a tablet a day. After about a month, it seemed to be helping so I got some stronger stuff for me and noticed a difference quite quickly so have been taking it for mine for quite a few years now.

  5. My first thought was fire Hydrant but given there’s a church or cathedral in the background and it looks too big I’m guessing cast iron and some type of Victorian heating thingy…
